John Herbert Lupson was born circa 1887 at Ely, England. John and Ethel May LaBallister, daughter of John George LaBallister and Maria Elizabeth Hattie, were married by Reverend H. C. Dixon on Saturday, 14 February 1914 at their home, 109 Sumach St., Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada. She was 28, living at 109 Sumach Street, born Toronto, widow, Church of England. He was 27, living at 109 Sumach Street, born Ely, England, bachelor, laborer, Anglican. Richard Lupson and Mary Lupson witnessed the marriage. He began military service on 27 August 1915 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada, when he passed his medical examination and became regimental #138484. States he was born in Ely, Cambridge, England on May 24, 1884, occupation Linesman. His next of kin was listed as wife Ethel, 616 Dundas Street West, Toronto. His description on enlistment was: 5' 7¼" tall, fresh complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair, Church of England. He had a scar for varicelle, scar base right thumb, Tattoo in memory of Brother.
     John died on Saturday, 9 September 1916 on south of Pozieres, France, a Casualty of WW 1. The burial register simply states "Killed in Action". He is commemorated in the First World War Books of Rememberance, 1916, on page 121 An image of the page can be found here. He was buried at the Sunken Road Cemetery, Contalmaisin, Somme, France.
